This 92-page LYA Report covers worldwide spectrum prices, auctions and licensing trends. The report is an essential tool for assessing different types of spectrum opportunities – below and above 1 GHz – including pricing information in $/MHz-pop from 82 licensing and auction processes held in 45 countries from 1995 to 2009. Spectrum bands are not all created equal and different market and license conditions in different countries lead to different values. LYA’s report shows the importance of dealing with the “devil in the details” in making sure that the price you pay is the right one in the specific circumstances. Our report provides the numbers behind the charts – for 2G/3G as well as for spectrum opportunities represented by the 2.6 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 700/800 MHz (digital dividend) spectrum. The report also provides insight into licensing and auction processes underway in 54 countries. Please click here to access the detailed brochure and table of contents.

With over 100 pages, the report includes more than 60 Tables and 20 Figures to fully illustrate the status of all mobile service providers, the handsets and capabilities offered and mobile broadband applications. This independent report was prepared by LYA at the request of DAVE Wireless Inc. (“DAVE”). DAVE acquired Advanced Wireless Service (“AWS”) licenses in the 2008 Canadian spectrum auction. DAVE’s AWS licenses cover more than half of Canada’s population including major markets such as Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa. This report focuses on assessing the deployment and commercial potential of the licenses that were auctioned in 2008, which included AWS (1.7/2.1 GHz) as well as G Block (1900 MHz) and I Block (1670-1675 MHz) licenses. The characteristics of the spectrum blocks that were auctioned is addressed considering first the nature of the auctioned bands and their global context relative to allocations and deployment elsewhere and second by looking at the evolution of the customer user technology – handsets – that are increasingly a critical component of mobile service offerings. The research conducted specifically for this report, reinforced by past project work of LYA, included interviews with key vendors, research of technical literature, specifications and regulatory filings as well as reviews of commercial offers of major carriers in Canada and the US.
